Postpartum Consults
When we say postpartum, many people think it is a short window of time after having a baby. However, it's much more realistic that postpartum is the time after the baby, the mother after the baby. It takes more than 6 weeks to heal and be nourished and well grounded. We are here to offer support when needed most in an environment that is supportive and inclusive and meets your cultural, spiritual, emotional and physical needs and wants.

Postpartum can be hard, and others find it easy peasy. However, it can be common for women who are finding it hard, feeling exhausted, generally not coping or finding that they are so drained of energy and stuck with what to do 12 months post-birth; most of the time, they have some postpartum depletion. This means they may lack some vital vitamins and minerals needed - especially if exclusively breastfeeding.
The most common are:
Iron
B12
Zinc
Vit D

Some other things recommended to look into for certain individuals are sex hormones and thyroid profiles. Blood analysis and supplement reviews are valued at $85 and can be a quick way to see what you may require.

Otherwise, see below for an insight into a one-hour postpartum consult, which will let us work together to determine your nutritional needs.

What is involved in a 1hr postpartum consult?
Understanding you as a mother and what may be required.
In an initial consult, I will listen to your needs, experience and any concerns you have. I will ask about your whole self, not just the physical. Spiritual, whanau, mental, and environmental aspects can reflect your health. This allows me to see the bigger picture and pinpoint what we may need to look at.
Esure you have had a 6-week check up.
Have you seen a women's health physiotherapist to clear you for exercise? If not, I can help you find a local practice in your area. We can discuss any concerns you may have (or not) regarding your pelvic floor post-birth.
Nutrition
Blood & Supplement reviews.
During the initial consult, we will discuss your nutritional behaviours and habits to clarify whether we need supplementation. Of course, this only comes after sending off for a blood analysis, which may be required depending on whether you have had recent blood or need further investigation. Most of the time, this is done through your GP, who I like to work alongside to get the best care and reduce the cost for you as the client. A follow up consult will need to be made to discuss next steps based off your blood results.

After we have completed these steps, you will receive a package from me that includes a treatment plan, supplement review, blood analysis (post-blood results - follow-up required), and a nutritional plan with recipes, tips, and tricks—this is based on your preference and discussion from the consult.
