The Menstruating
Adolescent in Sport

I'm here to advocate for young menstruating adolescents in sports, whether elite or recreational. I offer group workshops for sporting groups/teams, parent/coach groups and more.

Please email me with your organisation details, approximate group size, and any other details you would like me to provide, and I will be in touch.

This space is important for our young wāhine and those who menstruate, and I thank you for wanting to advocate for them, too!

The menstrual cycle connection

Say it with me.. Period! It's becoming more and more common to speak of the menstrual cycle in a sporting context. Doing so can help reduce the stigma and shame adolescents experience with menstruating. A woman's hormones vary throughout the month & exercise, stress, sleep, and food influence how she can experience a cycle. With support on how to talk about menstruation and its connections to sport and performance, you could help your female athletes feel comfortable coming to you for guidance and assist them to perform in a balanced way without any negative influences on their developing bodies.

Nutrition for her

It's important to use the right language when it comes to food and fuelling for menstruating adolescents in sports. Do you know the impact reducing food intake can have on her body? Did you know that losing her period is not normal and can have direct implications for her musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and psychological health, and more? Let's unpack what this means and how you can offer nutrition strategies that suit your sporting goals and her health.

Peer and social pressure

We all want our team, daughter, or athletes to win, and I know that sometimes it's not just about 'having fun'. However, it's important that you provide the right balance of winning, rest, support, and reduced pressure in sport to preform. There are multiple ways of supporting young wāhine in sports. I'll provide you with the tools to support her in a balanced way!
